Call three companies about the same project and you might hear three different words: one rents disposal bins, one rents dumpsters, one rents garbage bins. In Ontario, they are all describing the same thing.
The vocabulary, decoded
Dumpster is the American word that crossed the border through TV and movies. Bin is the Canadian default, usually dressed up as disposal bin, garbage bin, waste bin, or junk bin. Roll-off describes the delivery mechanism, explained in What Is a Roll-Off Dumpster?. Skip is the British and Australian term, and it shows up here occasionally too.
Every one of these, in the context of a home or construction project, means an open-top steel container delivered to your property, filled by you, and hauled away by the company.
Why companies use different words
Search habits, mostly. Some Ontarians type dumpster rental, others type bin rental or disposal bin rental, and companies write their websites around whichever their customers say. The service behind the words is identical, which is worth remembering when you compare quotes: you are comparing the same product, so compare the terms that matter, like what disposal weight is included and whether delivery is in the price.
The words that do change the service
A few terms describe genuinely different things. A front-load dumpster is the lidded container emptied weekly behind a business, which is our commercial dumpster program. A dumpster bag is a heavy-duty 1 tonne bag, our Bam Bag, for jobs too small for a steel bin. Junk removal traditionally means a crew hauling your pile; our bin-based version drops a bin instead and lets you load at your own pace for a flat rate. And a Molok is a permanent semi in-ground container for multi-unit properties, covered in our Molok guide.
So what should you search for?
Whatever comes naturally. Whether you landed here from garbage bin rental, disposal bin rental, or dumpster rental near me, the next step is the same: check the bin size guide, open your town's page under service areas for local pricing, and book the container by whatever name you like. We answer to all of them.
