Junk removal quotes confuse people because two companies can look at the same pile and price it completely differently. They are not making it up; they are just charging for different things. Here is the anatomy of the price.
The four ingredients in every junk removal quote
Volume. Most crews price by how much of their truck your stuff fills, in fractions: quarter truck, half truck, full truck. Bulky, awkward items eat truck space fast, which is why a sectional sofa costs more to remove than its weight suggests.
Labour. Carrying is the product. Basements, upper floors, long carries to the truck, and disassembly all add time, and time is billed one way or another.
Access. A pile at the curb is cheap to load. The same pile behind a narrow side gate, down a hill, in the rain, is not.
Disposal. Everything ends somewhere, and licensed facilities charge by weight and material. Mattresses, appliances, and electronics often carry their own handling fees at the facility, which flow into your quote.
Why the flat-rate bin model prices differently
Our bin-based junk removal removes the two most variable ingredients: labour and access. We deliver a bin, you load it at your own pace, and the price is a flat rate with disposal included up to 1 metric tonne. Nobody is billing for the stairs in your house, because you are the one walking them. For most multi-room cleanouts, that math lands well below crew pricing, and the trade is simply your own effort.
Getting a number you can trust
Whatever model you choose, a trustworthy quote names the volume, says what disposal is included, and does not change when the truck arrives. Be suspicious of prices quoted sight-unseen for complicated jobs, and of any quote that cannot say where the material ends up; the answer should be licensed facilities, with donation and recycling where possible, which is part of why we joined Waste to Resource Ontario.
