Fall Yard Cleanup: What to Do With All Those Leaves and Branches

A fall cleanup order of operations for Ontario yards: what goes to municipal programs, what belongs in a bin, and how to close the season in one weekend.

Fall Yard Cleanup: What to Do With All Those Leaves and Branches

Ontario yards produce two harvests every fall: the one you planted, and the one that falls, snaps, and overgrows between Thanksgiving and the first snow. The second one is a logistics problem, and like most, it surrenders to an order of operations.

Use the municipal stream for the routine stuff

Bagged leaves and small bundled branches belong in your municipality's seasonal yard waste collection, which most Ontario towns run on scheduled fall dates. It is the right stream: municipal yard waste gets composted. Check your town's collection dates early, because the final pickup of the season is the deadline that matters.

Where a bin earns its spot

Municipal programs have limits: bag counts, branch diameters, bundle sizes, and no appetite at all for the heavy and woody end of a real yard project. A bin takes over when fall cleanup escalates into:

Storm and deadfall wood. Downed limbs and whole-shrub removals outrun bundle rules fast. Branches, brush, and sod are all on our accepted list.

Season-end demolition. Rotten fence sections, a sagging shed, the deck you promised to replace, planter boxes gone soft: fall is when outdoor structures come down, and their lumber fills bins, not bags. Our landscape debris service covers the whole category.

Sod and soil projects. Re-grading and garden tear-outs produce dense loads that behave like the clean fill world: heavy beats bulky, so tell us when booking.

The combined purge. The classic fall move is pairing the yard with the garage: one 10 or 15-yard bin, per the size guide, closes out both before winter, the outdoor version of the garage playbook.

The one-weekend sequence

Friday, bin arrives; Saturday, cut and clear the big wood first while energy is high, then rake into the municipal bags; Sunday, structures and the garage sweep, loading the bin level with the rim. Monday, we haul it, and the yard is winter-ready.

One caution for the burn-pile crowd: open burning is restricted or banned in many Ontario municipalities, and a bin beats a bylaw complaint. Local pricing and booking live on your town's page under service areas, from Uxbridge to Waterdown.
